Meeting of the Minds

Dr. Donald Warne presented the keynote address at the Meeting of the Minds Dementia Conference on Saturday March 19 in St. Paul, MN.

It was a busy week for Dr. Donald Warne—he is providing a keynote address at the 29th Annual Research and Policy Conference on Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health in Tampa, FL. The keynote is entitled ‘Impact of Historical Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences on American Indian Health Inequity.’ On Thursday, he will be presenting ‘Indigenous Approaches to Health Equity’ at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. NDSU Department of Public Health will be well-represented!

Dr. Warne's D.C. trip this week!

Dr. Warne presented at the White House Rural Council meeting on Rural Child Poverty in conjunction with the National Association of Counties.  While in DC, he was able to meet with US Senator Heidi Heitkamp (ND) and with Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Mary Wakefield (also from ND!).  It was a good couple days in DC and NDSU public health programs are well-represented and supported at the highest levels of government.

White House Rural Council meeting on rural poverty.

Dr. Warne presented at Augsburg College

Dr. Donald Warne presented the Batalden Seminar in Applied Ethics at Augsburg College in Minneapolis on Tuesday February 16.  The topic was Traditional Lakota Approaches to Health Equity: Connecting People and the Environment. It was also a great opportunity to discuss the NDSU Master of Public Health and to recruit future students!

 

 

 

 

Public health department chair to be on panel addressing rural child poverty

Donald Warne, chair of the Department of Public Health, is scheduled to be an expert panelist at a White House Domestic Policy Council panel focused on rural child poverty. 

“Opportunity for All: Building a Brighter Future for Rural Families” is set for Feb. 22-23 in Washington, D.C. Warne’s panel is titled “Rural Poverty: Prevalence and Implications for Child Well-Being.” The session will present new findings on the growth of concentrated poverty outside urban areas and the implications of poverty for children’s future economic opportunities.
